Works just as expected.
The side discharge accessory is well designed overall. It's lightweight and easy to install. The only minor issue is that it can become dislodged from its retaining clips if you are mowing in deep grass while the bag doesn't have much grass in it. I only experienced that twice, but I was mowing in particularly deep weeds, which almost never happens. I don't see that being a regular issue.

Not bad for smaller yards, not great either
Having used this mower for almost a year now I can say that its been good. We moved and have a much bigger yard, but even before we did have some trouble completely cutting our 1/10 acre lot. Never needed to use the catch or any of the attachments so I can't comment on the degree of difficulty or effectiveness. Certainly not meant for anything over 1/4 of an acre. If you do have a larger yard, consider buying an extra battery and keeping them charged constantly.
The pros of this mower are obvious: very quiet, light weight, no fumes or gumming, very low maintenance, economical and eco friendly. The automatic drive is very powerful. You may find that the slider to control the speed seemed somewhat sensitive. We noticed a much shorter battery life span if you cut on anything lower than the second or third notch that adjusts the height. Doesn't seem to have much ability to chew through thicker patches of grass unless you mow over it twice using the higher settings first.
Great thing about this line is using the battery for other Ryobi products. The battery works well in the weeder and probably everything else too. As far as price, we were able to get it on special for about $300.00. I wouldn't pay more than that unless there was no competition. Some of the high end models with a wider blade and longer battery life are also pretty expensive but it seems that you pay for the technology and convenience and not performance.

Works, I like it but....
While it attaches super easy and does what it is suppose to do......it also comes off too easily when you are backing/turning. So in 5000 sq ft of mowing I have to reattach multiple times.

Ryobi 20 in Mower Side Discharge
I used the side discharge while mowing and it work great, only problem is that it fell off a couple time on uneven ground. The bottom does not lock in place which causes it to lift off. Other than that its fine.

It’s ok but not great!
So I’ve used this about 10 times this season. If your mowing on anything but the highest blade setting it will come off on any bumpy terrain. The issue I have is at this point the nuts and bolts that hold the plastic chute to the mounting bracket have vanished mid-now. I tried to cal and order the parts, they don’t even have the specs on it. Called equipment troubleshooting and they also couldn’t even find the part itself!

Okay but...
This chute is convenient but due to its design and just sitting on a hook with nothing holding the bar down it gets pulled off fairly easily if the lawn mower hits uneven terrain. I have a slanted yard and this caught on the terrain several times during one session of mowing causing me to have to stop and re-align it every few minutes. So it really doesnt seem anymore effective than just using the the mowers included grass clipping bag.
