All the power without the headaches
I use a chainsaw around the yard about two or three days a year. Dealing with leaded gas, gas-oil mixes, spark plugs, air filters, the choke, and glazed carburetors meant I was spending more time trying to keep the chainsaw running than doing actual work. This is just what I needed. I check the chain oil level, check the chain tension, and clean it off and charge the battery when I'm done. It's the same battery my leaf blower uses. The charge lasts longer than I do.

Battery Issues
I just made the same mistake as Peter in comments.Replacing my old 40V battery which is not pleasing,I purchased a new 40V that fits my trimmer but not my chainsaw.I am taking the battery back to HD and will re-consider my selection of companies for power tools.I am not spending more money buying another Ryobi battery that will fit the chainsaw but will only last 4-5 years

Horrible support
I have had this chainsaw for several years. It has performed fairly well, not as good as my gas chainsaws but fine for quick jobs. The original 4ah battery died, so I bought a replacement 4ah 40v battery from HD. It doesn't fit. The newer battery has a case that is slightly taller than the original. Buyers should be aware that if you purchase this chainsaw and want to use some of the newer 40v 4ah batteries. It will not fit. You could of course buy a 2ah battery, but that also limits your runtime. The cost of two 2ah batteries from HD is $149 each, so close to $300 before taxes to equal the capacity of one 4ah. One 4ah battery is about $189. The cost of this chainsaw per MSRP is $229 when I purchased it. There is a newer model with battery available on HD for about $250. I practically could have bought a brand new chainsaw for $60 more with the same 4ah rated battery. I now have an expensive paperweight unless I wanted to spend more money to use two of the 2ah batteries. Ryobi should be ashamed of themselves.

Oiler never worked, saw is loud for an electric
The "automatic oiler" on this saw has never worked. Unfortunately I didn't use the saw much until after the return period had expired, so I'm stuck with it. I contacted customer support and they suggested sending it in at my expense for a warranty repair. When I looked into it, the shipping cost was more than what I paid for the saw! (They require paying for shipping both ways to fix a manufacturing defect). Other than that, the saw cuts. It definitely competes with a similar sized gas model and is easier to use (except every gas model I've owned oiled the chain). So I have to manually oil the chain which is very inconvenient, and frankly doesn't get done as much as it should. Also the saw is very loud for an electric saw. I also own the 18v version of this saw. It has an option to manually depress a button to oil the chain. I wish the 40v version had that, or any other functioning mechanism that effectively oiled the chain. I've read other people complain that their 40v Ryobi saw leaks oil everywhere when it sits. I would rather have that problem than a saw that every drop of oil that goes into the reservoir stays there forever. If you buy this saw, definitely make sure the chain oiler is working before the return window closes. I don't think I would buy another one of these, not having a functioning oiler could cause the saw to overheat and create a safety issue. It definitely starts smoking if I try using it like a real chainsaw.

Powerful little chainsaw
We have had our chainsaw since 2019 and the number of it is RY40503 close to this models. Did not see listed at this time but wanted to review it as one awesome chainsaw.
Last summer we had a storm rip 2 pine trees out of the ground that have been growing for over 40 yrs. That saw hung in there and cut up more then our old gas powered saw ever cut over the years. Had to change out the battery for a fresh charged one now and then. Got a new chain blade when done, cut so much wood wore out the original. Highly recommend, and our neighbor seen how much it could do and bought one. His gas powered just was not wanting to start. Very happy customers.

Felled trees
It was quick and easy to fell 4 medium sized trees. Loved being able to use batteries from our other ryobi products. We watched a lot of videos and wore PSE (ear, eye and helmet) and used Ryobi lube. The lube leaks from the chain saw, which is weird but expected.

very good saw
I purchased this saw after my one year old Ryobi gas powered saw failed to start pleasantly surprised plenty of power for cutting some pretty large limbs !! One year old gas powered saw found a very small green plastic piece blocking the fuel line before the primer bulb removed it , primer pushed fuel to the carburetor and started right up ???

Good power but poor design
I bought this saw along with the pole saw last winter. I’ve had time to use it quite a bit. I like everything about it and the pole except that they both leak the entire reservoir of bar oil out if you don’t empty them before you store them. I’ve owned several gas powered saws and even worked as a Sawyer on wildland fire crew and never had I saw a leak as bad as this one
